Rollin’ down the highway…

Happy Friday and welcome to the weekend! I hope that wherever you are, the weather has been as beautiful as it has been here in Chicago. This week’s post may be a little short because we’re getting ready to hit the road for some R & R in Park City, Utah. We’ve got a log cabin rented up in the mountains and are ready to do just about nothing for a couple of weeks. It’s going to be pretty rough waking up to this view.

We’ve been just about everywhere in the Rockies, but we’ve never done Utah. So a new adventure is coming our way with our newest co-pilot, Diesel. I know, I didn’t post any pictures last week. And believe me, I heard all about it. I could just say I was waiting to surprise you with the news that our little man has learned how to swim. We went to a new dog park with a large lake and much to my astonishment, he decided this is his new favorite past time. So…here are a few photos from the lake to give you your weekly Diesel fix. (NOTE: He still won’t step foot in the baby pool we bought him…)

I’ve had more than a few people give me curious looks when I tell them we’re driving to Park City, and more than a handful have told me we’re downright crazy. Well, it’s what we love to do, it’s why we bought the truck. And Diesel is too much of a prince to fly coach and I’m not paying for his first-class ticket. He has promised to drive his portion of the trip.

While I was searching for appropriate songs to post this week I found Addicted to Diesel by Jayne Denham. Needless to say, it will be playing when he’s behind the wheel.

Going back to when I was first diagnosed, shortly after the news we traveled to Florida to see Amy’s family. I thought that was going to be my last road trip. My forearms cramped a lot and I was really fatigued. We were afraid ALS was going to keep taking my ability to drive. Luckily, prayers have been answered and miracles do keep happening. (I’m counting on a self-driving truck as one of those miracles.) We’ve logged almost forty thousand miles since then and I am nothing but excited about the five thousand we have ahead of us.

Rolling down the road, Amy is our navigator extraordinaire and Pandora is my favorite DJ. I love to reminisce all the road trips we’ve taken over the years and ask Pandora to play my favorite songs from each era. She never misses a beat pulling up those songs and I just let her play whatever she deems appropriate after that. She seldom fails to find some long-lost songs I’m so happy to hear again.

Starting off this adventure, BTO is going to be the first request with Roll On Down The Highway.

As I mentioned, time is running short today, a long list of things to do and nowhere near enough time to get them all done. You can thank the clock that my ramblings this week will be short, but, be warned, next week I’ll be sitting in the mountains writing this. You never know what the altitude and a good glass of whiskey will help me come up with. To wrap things up, I’m just going to leave you with a taste of what’s going to be cranking out of the speakers as we roll down Interstate 80.

A trip of any length has to include Zach Williams for Amy and me. We’ve got a couple of his concerts coming up. He’ll be rocking out with Crowder in November and joining Third Day on tour this spring.

By the time we hit Nebraska, Sammy Hagar will say it best…thank God the days of 55 are long behind us.

After a night in Lincoln, Nebraska, it will seem like Life is a Highway the next morning.

When we see the sign for Wyoming, I will feel like I’m King of the Road.

As I was searching for a short prayer to share with you about travel, I came upon this and really liked it:

I’d like to edit it just a bit and ask that the Holy Spirit leads us as we explore, gives us patience on our path, brings us joy on our travels, and may we always smile with those whose path we cross along the way.

Here’s praying your upcoming week is full of happiness, your football team wins, and you’ll find your way back here next week.

Thanks for hanging in there with me.

God bless.

Coach

Safe travels to you all! I moved to Tucson from Lincoln, Nebraska in 2004. Where will you be staying? It’s a great place to be from. Take Care.

Great videos! The one of BTO almost looks like it’s unreal – from a movie set made to look like the 70s. So good! And Sammy doing “I can’t drive 55” – so 80s! Keep on truckin!
